Selection Criteria
Word Count
Submissions must be between 1,250 and 2,500 words long and use language that is accessible for an interdisciplinary audience. Word count does not include the abstract or references list. Works that are more than 20 words over the word count, or more than 20 words under the word count, will not be accepted. Please revise your submission to ensure that it falls within the accepted word count.
Anti-racist and Anti-oppressive Writing Principles
Racialized and marginalized communities face frontline impacts of climate change, and this journal prioritizes works that centre the experiences of those most marginalized within current institutional responses to the climate crisis. Principles of anti-racist and anti-oppressive writing are a high priority within the review process of this journal, and it is highly encouraged to reflect on the relationship of this submission to oppressive systems and structures and revise accordingly. Review and Selection Criteria
Below is an overview of our criteria for review and selection.
Higher order concerns
- The submission centres the experiences of those most marginalized within the climate crisis.
- The submission’s central focus is richly developed.
- The submission reflects the principles of anti-racist and anti-oppressive writing.
- For submissions that are written by or about Indigenous Peoples, or about Indigenous topics, the writing reflects the principles outlined in Dr. Gregory Younging's book Elements of Indigenous Style.
- The writing style engages the reader and is well organized.
Lower order concerns
- The submission contains few, if any, typos or errors in citation.
- Arguments are clear and accessible for readers across disciplines.
- Submission shows evidence of thoughtful revision/editing.
